THE STORY
Often observed in vineyards and orchards, the red wattle is a passerine bird native to southern Australia. Aggressive and territorial, the red wattle bird defends its nest and sources of food against other birds. The red wattle bird is predominantly a nectar-feeder, foraging mostly in trees; in particular, climbing along branches (rather than the trunk) and probing flower-heads with its bill.
This bird contributes to the bustling wide life seen in our great state and adds beauty to our regions. It is a well-loved icon of the South Australian state.

THE REGIONS
South Australia
South Australia as a whole is a world-renowned wine growing location. The state is responsible for almost 50% of Australia’s annual production. It is also home to some of the most famous regions, historic estates and the oldest vines in the country. Grapes that grow in South Australia experience different climate throughout, but varieties are attributed to their respected regions based on the conditions that best match.

Southern Fleurieu
Once in the shadows of McLaren Vale, its high-profile northern neighbor, today Southern Fleurieu has its own spotlight and a bright future in wine. The Mediterranean climate in this hilly region is influenced by the surrounding ocean, making the region cool by South Australian standards. The clay loams and buckshot gravel soils are well suited to viticulture and support moderately vigorous vine growth within this diverse landscape.
